Simple Mastectomy

Mastectomy (or removal of the breast) is a very traditional approach to breast cancer treatment. Patients are left with a flat scar with loss of the nipple. Not all cancers require simple mastectomy (see section on Immediate reconstruction). This technique is only reserved for elderly patients or those with a high risk for general anaesthesia.
